Our Grade 11 students kicked off the Cops for Cancer festivities early yesterday, as they held their own head shave to raise money for the popular SMUS cause. Because the Grade 11 students will be gone on their outdoor education trips when the Tour de Rock
riders come through campus, they decided to organize their own event, taking volunteers who were willing to lose some hair (for some money) and selling raffle tickets for the privilege of wielding the electric razor or wax strips.
While shedding the hair on their heads continues to be a popular way to contribute, it is the waxing of the legs of some of our bravest male students that has become the biggest crowd pleaser. A special highlight from the Grade 11 event was student Ryan Taylor, a Grade 11 boarder from Port Alberni, waxing off just one of his eyebrows to raise an extra $100 for the cause.
The rest of the cancer fund-raising and hair-losing will take place this Thursday morning.
