Brendan McLeod Mixes Music and Poetry

Mr. Young’s classroom was packed this Thursday afternoon, with students crowding in to see Brendan McLeod, a member of the Fugitives troupe that often visits SMUS, who was in town to take part in Tongues of Fire. The Canadian SLAM poetry champion regaled students with songs and stories from obscure Canadian history and his own (often humorous) life.

In addition to being a captivating performer, Brendan is also a novelist, who beat out over 500 original entries to win the 2006 International 3 Day Novel Contest for his book, The Convictions of Leonard McKinley. Brendan will likely return to the school this year with the Fugitives, who have led students in writing workshops in the past.
