by Lori Adam, Director of the Annual Fund
At the beginning of the 2008/09 school year, the ambitious goal was set to raise $888,888 for the Annual Fund. As of June 26, 2009 that goal was surpassed, reaching $901,628! I congratulate our entire SMUS community and thank each and every person for their belief in the difference they can make.
I am extremely grateful to the team of parents who helped increase participation in the Annual Fund. Thirty-eight parents volunteered their efforts to share the positive message of all that the Annual Fund creates for SMUS students. Every grade’s success deserves celebration, but the Grade 1 class deserves special mention for its increased participation from 42% to 91%. I also wish to single out Sandra Turpin, Patty Schmidt, Mia Maki, Dionne Laslo-Baker and Kate Campbell for their tireless efforts in reaching for 100% participation.
I’m excited about all things made possible from this $901,628 such as scholarships, new programming, technology updates, school trips and so much more. But I am most excited by the belief and value placed on an exceptional educational experience which is reflected in this total.
To thank our donors for their continued support, we held our annual Thankathon last week when sixteen students personally called to thank over 100 Annual Fund donors. Staff, parents, alumni and friends of our school, who made gifts at all levels, were touched by the gratitude of the students. The students found it to be a fulfilling opportunity to express appreciation to donors and share their personal experience at SMUS.
I feel a tremendous sense of pride in SMUS. Thank you to everyone who joined us in our efforts this year. You’ll have to excuse the pun, but it was a banner year! I hope that you feel the same sense of celebration and accomplishment when you see the big star that crowns the the top of the banner.
