Last week, four senior athletes represented SMUS at the CSSRA Rowing Regatta in St. Catharines, Ontario. The team performed exceptionally well, placing 18th out of the 130 schools represented at the Regatta, which includes secondary schools from Canada, the United States and all over the world.
Mrs. Susanne Walker Curry, science teacher and rowing coach at SMUS, is very proud of her athletes’ achievements. “They should be very proud of what they accomplished – they were incredible ambassadors for the school and they were just great to be with.” Mrs. Walker Curry has rowed for Canada’s national team and was head coach for Canada in the CanAmMex Regatta.
After making finals in both of their categories, Grade 11 student Liz Fenje and Grade 12 students Derek Stedman then went on to Welland, Ontario to try out at the National Junior Trials June 2-3. Both athletes were selected to the Junior National Team and are invited to compete at the CanAmMex Games which will be held this year in Oklahoma City, OK, July 20-27, 2008. This accomplishment is a first for the SMUS Rowing team. Congratulations SMUS!

- Caryn Dooner and Maryann Watson won gold in the Junior Women’s Double and placed 6th in the Senior Women’s Double

Mrs. Walker Curry would like to thank all the parents who came with them on the trip, as they made huge contributions for the team with their time and support.
