Grade 11 student Ben Kwok was recently selected to play piano with the Victoria Symphony for the Third Annual Young Musician’s Concerto Showcase. More than 20 musicians auditioned and six were chosen to perform with Vancouver Island’s largest and most active performing arts organization.
“It has always been my dream to play with a real symphony,” says Ben. “Now I have arrived at my goal.”
Ben has been playing the piano for several years and is working toward the highest level in piano and certification as an Associate of The Royal Conservatory of Music.
Ben is not new to performing. He has participated in many piano recitals and competitions and has played in several SMUS concerts. He will play the saxophone for this year’s musical Grand Hotel.
So far Ben has attended two rehearsals with the Victoria Symphony and is very excited for the upcoming show. “This is the most important concert I have ever played,” he says.
The show will be held at the Royal Theatre in Victoria on March 2 at 2:30 pm.
