Roses are red, violets are blue, and it’s Valentine’s Day at SMUS! On Thursday students at all three schools participated in various festive activities to celebrate the day of love in honour of the pagan saint Valentine.
Junior School students celebrated the day by promoting the LOVE of reading. The library was decorated with love bugs as a way to remind students to get bitten by the “book bug.” Grade 5 students continued with the themes of love and reading by pairing up with the Kindergarten class to make a “friendship salad,” where the students cuddled up with books and teddy bears. The students also enjoyed a tasty fruit salad treat.
Students at both Junior School and Middle School dressed in red, white and pink street clothes and exchanged candy and Valentine’s Day cards with their friends.
At Senior School, some students formed teams and dressed in “lovely” costumes to present roses, candy and singing-grams to their peers. Choirs singing love ballads paraded through the halls to serenade classmates and members of the faculty. Girls dressed in hot pink togas, boys wore pink boxers, students were seen in bunny rabbit outfits and cheerleaders in red and white went throughout the school marking faces with red hearts in lipstick.
On Wednesday, Senior School students participated in an electronic match-maker survey that provided each student with a list of fellow students and celebrities they are likely to be most compatible with. Senior School is also holding a Valentine’s Dance on Friday evening.
