Grade 12 student Nicole Cook has been named the Save-On-Foods A-Channel Amazing Kid of the Week. Nicole was awarded $1,000 for her accomplishments in academics, sports and the arts as well as for her community involvement.
Each week, the local television network features a student who does great things in school or demonstrates leadership. A recipient must be nominated by a member of the community. Allison Weir, a nurse at the on-campus Health Centre nominated Nicole for her all-around school involvement.
“I thought she was an outstanding role model,” said Ms. Weir. “She’s just one of those quite heroes around school.”
Along with having top grades, Nicole plays on both the soccer and field hockey teams. She sings in the jazz choir, plays piano at a Grade 10 level and is the leader of the Free the Children club, an organization dedicated to children helping children through education. Nicole also volunteers at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
A-Channel cameras followed Nicole around campus on Monday, recording a day in Nicole’s life at school. The footage aired on Thursday night, along with a live cheque presentation by local TV personality Hudson Mack.
“It was a little weird being followed,” says Nicole. “But it was cool.”
