Junior School marked the end of the first week of classes with an evening barbeque on Friday, September 7. New and returning families arrived at the Oak Bay campus for a sunny evening of summer reminisces and autumn anticipation.
“The Junior School Family BBQ is an annual event which welcomes all families, especially ones that are new to the school community,” says Junior School Director Nancy Richards.
Parents mingled with each other and teachers, while the children took the field with their old friends and new schoolmates. Head of School Bob Snowden and his wife Joan were there to visit with both students and parents. Everyone shared a delicious barbeque prepared by the Brown Hall kitchen, along with many delicious desserts and salads provided by the parents.
“This year we had beautiful weather, which may have influenced an unprecedented turnout of Junior School families and staff members,” says Ms. Richards.
Also in attendance were a few rogue wasps, which organizers say will not be invited next year. The guests didn’t let any insect attendees ruin their evening and enjoyed themselves thoroughly as the sun went down and the first school-year weekend began.
Kindergarten and Grade 1 students had their first full day of classes this Monday. Next Wednesday evening is the Junior School Parent Information Evening.
